Pinned chats
Keep up to five conversations at the top of the chat list, in an order you choose, on every device you are signed in on.
A pinned chat sits above everything else in the chat list, whatever arrived last.

Five is also the ceiling no plan lifts.
Pin and unpin
- Long-press a chat row in the chat list — on a desktop, right-click it.
- Choose Pin to top.
- To take it off again, open the same menu and choose Unpin.
Pinned chats appear in a group at the head of the list under a heading that counts them:

The group keeps the order you pinned in, not the order messages arrived — a pin is a place, so a pinned chat does not jump around when something new comes in. Unpinned chats continue below, newest first, as always.
Taking a pin off is always allowed, on any plan. If a Plus subscription lapses while you have chats pinned, the group stays and the heading still reads "of 5"; you can unpin whenever you like, and you cannot add a new pin until Plus is back.
On every device
Pins are stored on your account, not on the device, so every device you are signed in on shows the same chats at the top in the same order. Pinning on your phone changes the list in the browser too.
On a Free account
The chat row menu still offers Pin to top — it is never greyed, marked or hidden. Pressing it opens the Plus window. Nothing about the chat changes.

Can I reorder the pinned group?
The group follows the order you pinned in. To move a chat, unpin it and pin it again — it goes to the end of the group.
Do pins follow me to a new device?
Yes. They are kept on the account, so a device you sign in on shows them immediately.
Does pinning change notifications?
No. A pinned chat notifies exactly as it did before.
What if a pinned chat is deleted?
It simply stops being shown in the group. Nothing else happens.
Can I pin a group chat?
Yes, any conversation in the chat list can be pinned.
Can I pin an email thread?
No. Pins are for chats.
