Saved searches

Keep up to ten mail searches in the drawer and run them with one press. The query is encrypted to your own key — the server never reads what you search for.

A saved search is a query you keep, not a list of results. It runs fresh every time you press it, so it always shows what matches today.

Ten is also the ceiling no plan lifts.

  1. Search your mail as usual.
  2. With a query typed, press the Save chip in the search bar.
  3. Give it a name — up to 60 characters. Leave it empty and the query itself is the name.
  4. Press save. The chip reads Saved while that exact query is saved.

Under the name box the app says where it goes: "Saved on this account, encrypted like a note — the server never reads what you search for."

What is kept is the query as you typed it and the filters the search bar had on at the time — today that is whether Trash was included.

Run and remove

Saved searches sit in the mail drawer under the folders, under a heading that counts them:

SAVED SEARCHES · 3 of 10

Press a row and the search bar is filled with that query and its filters, and the search runs. Long-press a row — right-click on a desktop — to remove it; you are asked to confirm first. Removing a saved search never touches any mail.

Where it is kept

Each saved search is stored the way a secure note is: a small record encrypted to your own key before it leaves the device. Our server can see that your account has saved-search records, how many, and the order they are in. It cannot read a name or a query.

Because the records are on the account, every device you sign in on shows the same list.

If Plus lapses

Your saved searches are kept and still work — you can run them and remove them as before. You cannot add a new one until Plus is back. Nothing is deleted.

On a Free account

The Save chip is in the search bar as always, never greyed, marked or hidden, and pressing it opens the Plus window. The drawer shows one row, Save this search, which does the same — it is the only place the feature is named for an account that cannot use it yet.

Cannot see

  • The name of a saved search
  • The query — what you search for is encrypted to your key, like a note

Can see

  • That this account holds saved-search records, how many, and their order

Does a saved search store the results?

No. It stores the query. Pressing it searches again, so new mail that matches shows up.

Not in place. Run it, change the query, and save the new one; remove the old one from the drawer.

Does removing a saved search delete mail?

No. It removes the query only.

Do saved searches sync between my devices?

Yes. They are kept on the account, encrypted to your key.

Saved searches are for mail search.

Can the operator see what I search for?

No. The query is encrypted to your own key before it is stored; nobody on our side can read it.
