We don't sell a VPN. Here is what one adds — and what it can't.

A VPN moves your traffic to a different network address. End‑to‑end encryption makes the traffic unreadable. They solve different problems, and they work well together.

Encryption first. With or without a VPN, every mail between Private.Ki users, every chat and every group is encrypted end to end on your device. No one can read it — not the VPN, not us. How the encryption works →

  • Hides your IP address from us — we see the VPN's exit
  • Hides from your local network (café, office, ISP) that you are using Private.Ki at all
  • Moves your apparent location

What a VPN cannot do

Because a VPN sees traffic, not content
  • Read your messages — they are encrypted on your device before they reach the VPN
  • See your keys, passphrase or password — none of them are transmitted
  • Hide who you write to from us — delivery needs the address
  • Protect a message you sent unencrypted to an outside provider

Using Private.Ki with a VPN

Nothing to configure. Sign in as usual over any VPN. Sessions are bound to a key on your device (DPoP), not to your network address.

Why we don't bundle one

A VPN is a trust decision about who sees your traffic. Bundling one would ask you to trust us with exactly the thing our design is built to avoid — visibility into your network activity. Use a VPN you have chosen for your own reasons; Private.Ki will work over it.

In one line: a VPN hides where you are. Private.Ki hides what you said. Neither replaces the other.
