What Private.Ki Plus is

One paid plan that lifts the product's limits. Same encryption, same keys — only the sizes change, and nothing a Free account has today is taken away.

WiA·4 min·Updated 20 Oct 2026·Verified against app release 2026.09

Every account is on one of two plans: Free or Plus. The plan decides the size of a set of limits and nothing else — the same encryption, the same keys, the same rules. Free's numbers are the ones the product always had; a Plus subscription lifts them and adds a few things Free does not have at all.

Two promises come first, because everything below sits on them:

  • Nothing a Free account has today is taken away. Not when Plus arrived, not later. Free's figures are the figures.
  • The plan is not a layer of encryption. Mail and chat are end-to-end encrypted on both plans, your keys stay on your device on both plans, and the server can read no more and no less either way.

What it costs

Period Price
Monthly $4.99 per month
Yearly $47.88 per year $3.99 a month — you save $12.00

Prices are in US dollars. Payment is in Bitcoin or Monero; the Card tile in the checkout is greyed Soon. Nothing is ever charged automatically: you pay for one period, and when it ends it ends. See Buy a Plus subscription.

What the plan gives you

The short version, in the order the app puts it:

  • Your own domain — [email protected], with 10 addresses on it and a catch-all.
  • Room for everything — 50 GB across mail, files and Drive, instead of 5 GB.
  • Big files — up to 1 GB per file inside Private.Ki, instead of 25 MB.
  • More addresses — 5 more addresses on our domains, each able to send and each with its own signature.
  • Send later and a longer undo — schedule a mail up to 30 days ahead; take one back for up to 5 minutes.
  • Bigger groups and longer self-destruct timers — 3, 6 and 12 months as well as the shorter ones.
  • Export your whole mailbox as one encrypted file.
  • Smaller comforts — any emoji as a reaction, eight accent colours, pinned chats, saved searches, your own password on a protected message.

Free and Plus, side by side is the complete list, every row of it.

What the plan never changes

This is the part worth reading twice. A Plus subscription does not touch:

  • The encryption. Same algorithms, same keys, same key generation. There is no "stronger" tier.
  • What our server can see. Unchanged on both plans — What our server can see.
  • The daily sending limits, the proof-of-work challenges and strikes. Those protect the system from abuse, and abuse is not cheaper if you pay. See Rate limits.
  • The protection against strangers writing to you. Plus adds one option to Who can message me — your own list of allowed senders — but it refuses nothing on its own.
  • Files to outside addresses. Still 25 MB on both plans: mail that leaves Private.Ki travels as ordinary mail, and that is what ordinary mail carries.
  • Support in any way that matters. Write to us on either plan.

How Plus shows up in the app

Nothing is marked, greyed or hidden to sell you the plan. A control looks exactly as it does for a member, and the press explains:

  1. A limit stops you. You try a sixth recipient, a longer undo window, an eleventh file. The control looked normal, because it is normal.
  2. A small panel opens. It names one thing the plan gives ("Undo send for 5 minutes"), one sentence about it, and the Plus figure on its own. Then Get a Plus subscription, See what's in Plus and Not now. It says nothing about Free and does not repeat the limit you just met — you already know what stopped you.
  3. See what's in Plus opens the Plus window. One card for the own domain and nine tiles that turn by themselves every six seconds. A resting mouse pauses them; a tap stops them for good; if your system asks for reduced motion they never move.
  4. See all features in its footer turns the same window into Everything in Plus — the complete list in one priority order. It opens with nine rows and a Show all 29 features control; pressing that fills the rest in place, and Show less folds it back. A back chevron returns to the tiles.

On a computer the panel is a small dialog and the window a centred panel over whatever you were doing. Closing either puts you back exactly where you were.

On a phone the panel is a bottom sheet and the window a full-height one. The tiles turn pages by swipe.

Two more places, both only once the plan can be bought:

  • Settings › Subscription — on Free, the price and the plan; on Plus, your end date, your balance, your payments and your receipts. See Manage your subscription.
  • The account menu — a single line that reads Private.Ki Plus, Plus subscription · until 10 Oct 2027, or Payment in progress ›. No price, no countdown, no dot.

There is no /settings/plus page and no Plus row anywhere else.

Ceilings no plan lifts

A few numbers are not a Plus matter at all. A 26th recipient, a one-use invitation link set to 366 days — those are refused flatly on both plans, with the plain message they always had, and no panel offers you anything. If a control greys out rather than opening the Plus panel, you have met one of those.

Cannot see

  • Anything new about your mail, chat or files. The plan changes sizes, not encryption

Can see

  • Which plan your account is on, and the day a Plus period ends
  • How many times each limit refused somebody, as one count per limit — never which account it was

Is my mail less private on Free?

No. The encryption, the keys and what the server can read are identical on both plans. Plus changes how much you may hold and how large a file may be, nothing about how it is protected.

Does Plus renew by itself?

No. You pay for one period. Nothing is stored that could charge you, because nothing about a card or an account is ever collected. The one exception is a switch you turn on yourself: Extend by itself from the balance, which pays the next period out of credit you already hold. See Vouchers and your balance.

What happens when my period ends?

You keep Plus for 7 more days, and then the account reads as Free again. Nothing is deleted and nothing is lost — if you are over the Free storage figure you keep every byte and are simply refused new files until you are under it. Details in Manage your subscription.

Can an operator give me Plus?

Yes — the plan can be set by hand, with or without an end date, which is how it worked before buying existed. It is the same plan either way.

Why is there no family or team plan?

There is one plan, for one account. Nothing else is built, and we do not list what is not built.
